Reveal!

As I've posted several times, my quilting group the Calendar Girls, has a block exchange in June every year then reveals the finished quilt in December. This year our blocks were red, white and blue with a patriotic theme. There are 16 of us in the group but we decided we wanted a small quilt this year so only made 8 blocks and divided them between the group. Here is the quilt I made.

In my attempt to give these blocks some 'movement' I drafted paper-pieced, flying geese corners which was quite challenging! I'd never tried that before. But, there you go--that's the reason I do all these group challenges and such. It makes me grow as a quilter.

Have you been in a quilting group recently? What project did you make?

I like your quilt! I've never participated in a block exchange before, maybe one day!

I love your quilt. The red, white and blue is great and you've got a nice variety of blocks. I've been in several round robins and several Dear Jane swaps. This year I'm in a group of 8 that is swapping 1 1/2" finished nine patches and another group of 4 that is trading 3" blocks (2 sets every month for a year). It is fun to be in a group because it does help you grow, and I think it's good to have a deadline for some of our projects. Happy New Year Diane!

Your quilt is wonderful Diane! Love your corners you've created! Awesome.

My group will be starting an "Ostrich Project" very soon. Everyone gets to write down a block name, or piecing method on a small piece of paper, fold it, and throw it into a box. Once a month a paper is picked from the box, and the block or method must be incorporated into your project. Your project can be any size, or anything from bag, pillow, machine cover, small quilt to King size. It can be done as a Sampler, Row or Round Robin layout. Once during the project you can bow out of what is "picked" for that month (thus you hide from it like an Ostrich), and then carry on. The project is deemed finished, when the maker calls it so.
Happy stitching!
