I am about to embark on my first cruise--to Alaska! Perfect time of year for someone living in the hot central valley of California. Of course, I needed to prepare some hand-work for the trip so I'm bringing these 15, 10" blocks to hand-applique. These have been prepared in the freezer paper and starch method and have been glue-basted down in just a few places--ready to go.
It's an old pattern, from 2002 I think, by Piece O'Cake designs. I was the high bidder on the entire kit of this quilt at a Breast Cancer Auction last month. LOTS of fabric and LOTS of work but it will be wonderful when it's done.
Of course this means I will miss next week's DWM on Judy's blog as I'll be at sea and I'm not going to bring my computer with me!! I don't know if I'll survive but I'm going to take this vacation seriously and just enjoy. And yes, of course I have researched all the quilt shops in the ports where the ship docks. I won't miss a one!!

Oh what fun Diane...just stitching and relaxing. If I ever go on a cruise that inside straight of Alaska is one I'd want to do. I hope you will post some photos along the way. Have a great time!
You will love it. We did our first Alaska cruise probably 15 years ago, give or take, and are anticipating our second. Enjoy the cool!
How neat, Diane and you're all set for the quiet moments. I've always loved that quilt. Congrats on your win!
Have fun take lots of pictures - you might make a landscape from one of them.
Congrats on the high bid! This quilt is very very pretty. Love the dots and colors you have chosen. Have a great vacation!
Have a blast in Alaska! My husband, after years of stating he would never take a cruise, decided late last year that he really wants to go on one! We are just seeing if we can afford to go and take the kids (or not). I have a feeling that our cruise will be dorm fees! Love your applique, it will be a blast to sit on the ship, watch the beautiful sceanry and sew. I will be with you in spirit!!
Have a great cruise!
Great applique project!
Be sure to check out the quilt shops in Skagway and Juneau - if those stops are on your route. We went on a cruise to Alaska a couple of years ago and I got the cutest little "Eskimo" pincushion in Juneau. And be sure to check out the patterns by Barbara Lavallee - they're GREAT!! Hope you have a good time - we want to hear all about it when you get back!
